Whilst these works have their roots in printmaking, and use traditional printmaking techniques, they are ultimately unique collages: A background layer is created by printing layers of colour by relief or etching processes, or by ‘blind embossing’ the paper (printing without ink) revealing only the texture of the plate.

At the same time Japanese papers are hand painted and printed on. Then the two are brought together as a collage, resulting in unique images, more akin to paintings than prints.

I enjoy the freedom of collage, the laying out many different possibilities until the result has the right feel of movement, rhythm, and mood. I am constantly intrigued by the concepts surrounding repeating, re-presenting and reworking images.
